Solomon Projects is pleased to announce our fall exhibition, All Things Considered (2007-2008), a thought-provoking and politically engaged project by young Georgia-based conceptual artist, Kathryn Refi. This exhibition will present Refi's most recent body of work: twelve, large-scale works on paper that map coverage of global news over the course of the year 2007. All Things Considered will be on view September 5 - October 11, 2008. An opening reception with the artist will be held on Friday, September 5th from 6-8 PM, and an artist talk will take place on Saturday, September 6th at 2 pm.

The twelve large drawings that comprise this exhibition developed over the course of 2007 as Refi listened daily to the first hour of National Public Radio's (NPR) news program of the same name. The artist carefully noted all geographical locations mentioned in each segment. The data was then transferred to paper through the application of small adhesive red dots, with each dot denoting a site referenced in the broadcast. Refi does not draw geographical boundaries of countries or continents; instead twelve world maps emerge as the red dots chart the places mentioned. The subtle drawings quietly compel the viewer to identify the distribution of dots representing the locations covered during the program - and by extension - where and how world news is considered.

Born in Atlanta in 1975, Refi received her BFA from the Maryland Institute, College of Art, in Baltimore, and her MFA from the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia, where she currently lives and works. Her work has been exhibited in museums around the southeast, namely the Gibbes Museum, Charleston, SC; the Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus, GA; Florida Atlantic University Art Galleries, Boca Raton, FL; The Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, Atlanta, GA; MOCA GA, Atlanta, GA, and nationally reviewed in Art in America and Art Papers. This is the artist's second solo exhibition at the gallery following Color Recordings in 2006.
